The new year is just around the corner, and many people across the region will be seeing in 2023 at social events such as parties and firework displays. If you are out and about on New Year’s Eve, you might be interested to know what the weather has in store.

New Year’s Eve looks set to be damp and drizzly for the most part. Light rain looks set to stick around for much of the day.

The high temperature on New Year’s Eve may reach 9C and a light breeze will make for a slightly cooler ‘feels like’ temperature. The rain should ease by around 6pm.

New Year’s Day will be cloudy but dry across the West Midlands. A high temperature of 8C should stave off any frosty feelings. The new week will continue to be dry and bright.

January 2, which is also a bank holiday, will see Birmingham basking in sunshine for most of the day. Clear skies will lead to a chilly night, with temperatures dropping to 2/3C in places.

Outbreaks of rain during the morning and staying generally wet during the afternoon with heavy rain at times. Possibly turning drier by dusk. Becoming windy with some strong gusts. Mild. Maximum temperature 11C.

Drier this evening and overnight, but a few blustery showers remain possible, especially in the west. Clearer spells will become increasingly likely. Turning chilly but remaining generally frost free. Staying windy. Minimum temperature 4C.

December 29

A bright day with sunny spells and a chance of brief showers, these locally heavy with a chance of hail. Windy with gusty winds, especially during any showers. Feeling colder. Maximum temperature 8C.

Outlook for December 30 to January 1

Staying changeable and generally unsettled with periods of rain, heavy at times, interspersed by brighter and more showery spells. Generally mild but brief colder interludes too. Windy with gales possible.
