Birmingham Storm Henk weather: Hour by hour forecast with a double yellow warning and flood alerts issued

The Met Office has issued a double Yellow Weather Warning for Tuesday (January 2) with two flood warnings from the Environment Agency affecting the city and four flood alerts

Day two of 2024 has seen persistent rainfall across Birmingham with the Met Office issuing a double yellow warning for rain and winds.

Both weather warnings are in place until 9pm tonight with warnings of travel disruption as rain falls on saturated grounds with fears of flooding in homes and businesses possible. The Environment Agency has issued two flood warnings where flooding is expected in Birmingham at:

  • The River Blythe at Blyth End and 
  • The Bourn at Bournville. 

There has also been four flood alerts issued for areas in and around the city where experts say flooding is possible at:

  • The River Arrow and River Alne
  • River Blythe in Warwickshire
  • River Salwarpe
  • Upper Tame

In a more positive update two flood warnings have been removed in the last 24 hours for:

  • Illey Brook at Halesowen
  • River Stour and Smestow Brook in the Black Country and South Staffordshire

The Met Office said: “It will be very wet today and windy at times, especially further south in the West Midlands. Rain will probably turn persistent and occasionally heavy by early this afternoon and possibly continuing for the rest of today, especially in the north of the region. Turning windier, especially in southern counties. Somewhat milder. Maximum temperature 10 °C today. Tonight is likely to remain wet, but becoming drier and less windy by midnight with clear spells. An increasing chance of showers during the early hours. Minimum temperature 6°C.
