Birmingham Weather: Met Office issues yellow warning as cold weather is set to continue - weekend forecast

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning in Birmingham which means that ice and snow are expected. The Met Office has warned that there could be a period of snow and rainfall on frozen surfaces which will result in icy conditions.

The Met Office has put a weather warning in place in Birmingham between 3am and 11am on Sunday, December 18. The Met Office website states that some roads and railways are likely to be affected by longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

 The Met Office warns that people should also be extra careful when they’re out and about as the icy weather could result in slips and falls on frozen surfaces, as well as some icy patches on untreated roads. The warning carries through until tomorrow (December 16), and again on Sunday (December 18).

 The Met Office predicts that the cold weather will stay until the end of the week with overnight freezing fog.

Today:

Any freezing fog patches may be slow to clear. Otherwise, it is going to be a bright and largely sunny day. Mostly light winds though still feeling cold with temperatures below average for December. Maximum temperature 3 °C. The Met Office has put a yellow ice warning in place.

Tonight:

Clear skies through much of the night again mean temperatures will plummet leading to a hard frost and some freezing fog patches. Northern parts perhaps turning cloudier towards dawn. Minimum temperature -7 °C.

Some lingering freezing fog patches through the morning, though some sunny spells. Somewhat cloudier than on Thursday, especially in the north, and still feels cold. Maximum temperature 3 °C. The Met Office has put a yellow ice warning in place.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Cold and cloudy on Saturday though mostly dry.

A yellow ice warning is in place on Sunday as a spell of snow is likely early on, with rain quickly following. Much milder than of late with further rain into Monday.
