As we head into the last few days of May, parts of the UK will continue to warm up - including in Birmingham. However, Tuesday (May 23) will see mostly cloudy conditions over the city with some sunshine coming through later in the evening.

Temperatures will hit 18C from 3pm, lasting until around 6pm. During the rest of the day however, it will be slightly cooler.

On Wednesday (May 24) it will begin to heat up a little more with the mercury rising to around 19C. By the weekend though, expect to be enjoying temperatures peaking at 21C.

Despite reports of a forthcoming heatwave this month the Met Office has confirmed there will be no extreme heat set to hit the country. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have your barbecue at the ready.

Neil Armstong is a Met Office Chief Forecaster. He said: “If you have heard media hyperbole that a heatwave driven by an African plume will bring intense heat to the UK in the next few days you are going to be disappointed – this isn’t true.

“However, if you are looking forward to a spell of largely fine, sunny and warm conditions across the majority of the UK, then you are going to be in luck.”

The national weather service has reported that the sunshine is set to reach “ground level” and is expected to gradually rise to “25°C for some, “for a day or two later this week”
