A cold snap is sweeping across the UK, with the West Midlands and Birmingham waking up to snow this Friday (March 10) morning. Temperatures have plummeted below freezing, and the Met Office yellow weather warning for snow is remaining until 2pm today.

Tomorrow Saturday will see similar low temperatures feeling freezing across Birmingham, but on Sunday temperatures are once again predicted to shoot up to around 11°C, according to the Met Office.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued a Level 3 Cold Weather Alert for the whole of England.

Dr Agostinho Sousa, head of extreme events and health protection at the UK Health Security Agency, said: “During periods like this, it is important to check in on family, friends and relatives who may be more vulnerable to the cold weather, as it can have a serious impact on health.

“If you have a pre-existing medical condition or are over the age of 65, it is important to try and heat your home to at least 18°C if you can.’’

Until temperatures begin to rise, at least an extra layer is advised today and for the next few days. Today is starting off with some heavy snow before changing into a sunny day in the afternoon.
