What weather warnings are in effect?

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for Thursday and Friday.

For Thursday, Met Office stated:

“A cloudy morning with patchy rain spreading across the region, heaviest across the north at first but steadily sinking southwards through the afternoon. Becoming breezy, especially in the east. Maximum temperature 16 °C.”

For Outlook for Friday to Sunday, Met Office stated:

These warnings come on the heels of recent storms that have already caused flooding and power outages in parts of the West Midlands.

What are the potential impacts?

Residents are advised to prepare for possible flooding, especially in low-lying areas. The heavy rain could lead to road closures, difficult driving conditions, and delays or cancellations in public transport. There is also a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services.

What safety precautions should be taken?

The Met Office recommends that residents stay informed about the latest weather updates and follow local advice on flood prevention. If you need to travel, it’s best to use main roads and avoid areas prone to flooding. Keep an emergency kit ready, including essentials like water, food, and medications.

The recent weather events

Last weekend, Birmingham experienced torrential downpours and thunderstorms, resulting in flooded streets and disrupted services. A Wetherspoons pub in Aldridge was evacuated after being struck by lightning, and several cars were abandoned due to rising waters.
