Birmingham weather: Hour by hour forecast as 53mph gales and wind sweep across the city

Gales and winds of up to 53mph are forecast today as a Yellow Weather Warning covers the north of the UK down to the north east of Birmingham.

The Met Office has warned that areas of the city on higher ground are particularly vulnerable to the conditions with cloud and drizzle also expected as West MIdlands Fire Service urges people to take extra care if they are aout and about.

The weather forecast does offer some respite with brightness developing throughout the day with areas sheltered from the wind feeling mild, with the maximum temperature reaching 12 degrees centigrade.

The Met Office said: “The strongest winds will gradually abate tonight, but it will remain blustery. Clear spells begin the night, then outbreaks of drizzle will arrive during the early hours of Friday. Friday will be a mostly cloudy day, though an isolated brighter spell may be possible. Damp in the morning but turning drier later. Still gusty but feeling rather mild in sheltered spots.”
