Gay Village hate crime arrest

West Midlands Police have arrested a man over a homophobic hate crime in which a man was attacked with a bottle in Birmingham’s Gay Village.

The 29-year-old surrendered to officers on Thursday and has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was identified on CCTV and police made several arrest attempts at addresses linked to the man and carried out other enquiries in a bid to track him down.

CGI Images have been released of a proposed new apartment block in Sparkbrook. Plans have been submitted for two new buildings on Coventry Road, South Yardley. The former Equipoint building was previously used as offices. In 2018 permission was given to convert to residential use. The application will be heard next Thursday.
