Residents close to the blaze have been urged to keep their windows shut

Fire crews have been working overnight to deal with a large blaze which broke out in a scrap yard in Aston on Friday evening (June 2).

At 11.00pm, the fire service was called to reports of the fire on Cheston Road in Aston.

A total of ten fire crews, including from from Aston and Ward End, have been in attendance to deal with the incident which involves a large quantity of scrap metal alight within scrap yard compound.

Crews remain at the scene this mornig (Saturday, June 3), working to prevent the fire from spreading and to extinguish it. The fire involves around 150 tonnes of scrap metal.

Currently, no casualties have been reported. Due to the smell of smoke in and around the area, the fire service recommend keeping doors and windows closed as a precaution.
