Birmingham city FC captain calls for national curriculum to include black and minority topics

Birmingham City FC’s captain Troy Deeney has written an open letter and launched a petition to the government calling for the history of black, Asian and ethnic minorities to be made mandatory in the national curriculum. He claims the current system is failing children from these backgrounds.

Birmingham City Council bans cars from 5 more schools

Seventeen schools in Birmingham are set to join the Car Free School Street scheme from Easter, aimed at making the commute for children safer by preventing drivers from using certain streets around schools. Those who breach the rules will face a £50 fixed penalty notice.

Ladywood murder victim named

The man who was found dead in Ladywood on Monday has been named. 49 year old Robert West, known as Bob Fresh, was found with fatal injuries in Steward Street just after 3am. A 43 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of his murder and is now being questioned.
