A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival crews found a car, a van and a lorry had been in collision. The driver of the car was the only person injured.

“The middle-aged man received advanced life support at the scene of the incident. He was then taken on blue lights to University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire; the critical care paramedic from the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car travelled with the crew.

“Unfortunately, the man was confirmed dead shortly after arrival at A&E.”

Rush hour traffic was badly affected following the crash, with national highways confirming the M6 was closed southbound between Junction 4 and Junction 3a.

Hundreds attend vigil and ‘No War in Ukraine’ protest planned

Hundreds of people attended a vigil in Birmingham on Sunday night to show their support for Ukraine following the Russian invasion. The vigil took place in Victoria Square and was organised by the city’s Polish community who wanted to show their support to Ukraine.

Many of those who attended had placards showing support for Ukraine, and West Midlands mayor Andy Street also addressed the crowd at the event praising the community for their support.

A ‘No War in Ukraine’ protest is also due to take place in Birmingham city centre this evening (Monday 28 February).

The demonstration is also opposing the expansion of NATO, which it blames for the escalation of the crisis. The coalition is demanding that Russia withdraw its troops and resume diplomatic negotiations to resolve the crisis.
