UB40 to be inducted into London’s Music Walk of Fame

They will all receive their Stone on Camden High Street and the unveilings will take place across September 4-9.

Global reggae band UB40, which formed in Birmingham, will be inducted into London’s Music Walk of Fame.

Eleven music icons will receive the award in 2023 and UB40 joins Janis Joplin, Harvey Goldsmith CBE, Gordon Mac, Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson, The Sugarhill Gang, Eddy Grant, Buzzcocks, Billy Bragg, Shalamar and The Kinks. They will all receive their Stone on Camden High Street and the unveilings will take place across September 4-9.

The event will include a red carpet where the stars can attend with their families - giving fans a chance to catch a glimpse of their favourite artists. Among the artists being honoured, Billy Bragg performed at the Moseley Folk and Art Festival in Birmingham over the weekend. This year sees Billy Bragg marking 40 years with a decade-spanning collection, The Roaring Forty: 1983- 2023

On September 9, the first annual Camden Musical Festival, an all-day free event with live entertainment and music, will be launched. The Music Walk of Fame was launched in 2019 in Camden and are embedded in the pavements of Camden square mile, according to Virgin Radio.

This is not the only Walk of Fame stone that UB40 has been awarded. The British band - which formed in December 1978 in Birmingham - received a Walk of Stars stone in their hometown in 2018.

UB40 - who are celebrating their 45th anniversary in 2023, recently peformened in Birmingham with great success. Their homecoming gig in Moseley Park was attended by thousands of people in the city.

The homecoming show was a sell out and fans were wowed with amazing performances from Robin Campbell, Jimmy Brown, Matt Doyle, Earl Falconer, Norman Lamont Hassan, Martin Meredith, Laurence Perry, Jahred Gordon, Gilly G, Ian Thompson and Matt Campbell.
