Five further arrests made after vehicle thefts reported across the West Midlands

West Midlands Police have arrested more than 1,200 people in connection with vehicle crime offences over the last six months.

Five people have been arrested following vehicle crimes across the West Midlands - including Birmingham, Solihull and Walsall.

West Midlands Police say officers stopped a van in Selly Oak at around 7pm on Wednesday (October 14) after it was suspected to be stolen following police patrols in nearby Edgbaston.

Two men, aged 28 and 56, were arrested as police investigate this alleged instance of vehicle theft.

In Shirley, Solihull, a 21-year-old man was arrested after police were called to reports that someone was “acting suspiciously” near a car showroom.

When officers looked into the incident, they said that they found a vehicle nearby with false registration plates, suspected of being linked to vehicle theft in the area.

In Walsall, two men, aged 20 and 23, were arrested after two bank cards were reported to have been taken from vehicles in Bentley and Willenhall.

When one of the cards was used in a shop in Darlaston on Wednesday (October 14) officers were quickly on the scene after these items were recovered.

The arrests follow an announcement from the police force that they have arrested more than 1,200 people in six months over vehicle crime offences across the region.
