Severe delays on M6 after crash between lorry and crane

Part of the M6 is closed this afternoon after a serious crash involving a lorry.

The M6 in Staffordshire is closed northbound between J15 and J16 due to a crash involving a lorry and a crane .

The crash, between Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme, has resulted in a large diesel and hydraulic fluid spillage across the carriageway.

The HGV crossed over to the opposite side of the motorway following the collision which took place at around 11am this morning (January 20).

Specialist cleaning equipment has been requested to the scene.

There is a considerable amount of traffic within the closure which is currently being turned from the rear of the queue.

There are currently delays of 60 minutes prior to the closure with delays back to J14.

Staffordshire Police and emergency services are currently in attendance.

The M6 was blocked in both directions earlier but traffic has now been released on the M6 southbound in between J16 and Newcastle-under-Lyme and J15.

Diversion Route

Road users are advise to follow the Hollow Diamond diversion symbol on road signs.

  • Exit the M6 at J15 and take the A500 eastbound.
  • Continue along the A500 (Queensway) for approximately 12 miles then re-join the M6 at J16.

Traffic travelling from south to the north west are strongly advised to consider alternative routes
