Hundreds attend Birmingham road safety demonstration following fatal collisions

Hundreds gathered for a road safety rally in Birmingham following the tragic death of a four-year-old girl in Highgate and a man in Oldbury. The event, organised by campaign group Better Streets for Birmingham, aimed to highlight prevalent road safety issues and the need for immediate action.

Campaigners from across Birmingham gathered for the demonstration on Saturday (April 20) which followed the recent fatal accidents that shook the city, reinforcing the severe road safety issues. The local police have further echoed the necessity of road safety measures such as Operation Triton, aimed at tackling dangerous driving behaviours.

These incidents occurred amidst growing concerns for road safety nationwide, with 1,711 deaths and 28,031 serious injuries recorded on UK roads in 2022. Around 25 people are killed on Birmingham's roads every year.
