Birmingham road closures: 13 routes for motorists to avoid over the next fortnight

Birmingham's motorists will have 13 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And five of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 and 30 minutes. The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that six closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• A38(M), from 9pm February 22 to 6am March 23, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A38M northbound and southbound, Aston Express to Gravelly Hill / Tyburn Road, link road closures for maintenance works, diversion route is via National Highways and local authority network.

M6, from 8pm November 13 2023 to 6am April 30 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, jct six to jct 5, carriageway closure for bridge joint replacement works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

• M42, from 9pm February 12 to 6am May 6, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 5 to junction 8, carriageway, slip road, link road and lane closures due to technology works, diversion via National Highways network.

• M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

• M6, from 6am January 12 to 11.59pm December 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 5, Hard shoulder closures with 50mph speed restriction for maintenance works.

• A446, from 9pm November 27 2023 to 5am December 10 2026, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M42 both directions jct 7A to jct nine and M6 both directions jct 3A to M42, Lane and carriageway closures for construction works for HS2.

And a further seven closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• M6, from 9pm March 18 to 6am March 19, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 6, exit slip road closure for maintenance works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

• A38, from 9pm March 18 to 6am March 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A38 Lindridge roundabout, Lane closure for electrical works.

• A4123, from 9pm March 18 to 6am March 19, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 northbound, jct three northbound, exit slip road, Lane and slip road closure for barrier repairs, diversion via National Highways network.

• M5, from 9pm March 20 to 6am March 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, jct three to jct 4, Lane closures closing access to Frankley Services for barrier repairs.

• M6, from 9pm March 23 to 5am March 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 5 to junction 6, Lane closure for communication works.

• M6, from 9pm March 25 to 6am March 27, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 6 to junction 7, Lane closure for maintenance works.

• M6, from 9pm March 25 to 6am March 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 both directions, junction 6 to junction 5, lane closure for maintenance works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
