Major road closures in & around Birmingham: eight for drivers over the next fortnight

Drivers in and around Birmingham will have eight National Highways road closures to watch out for

There are eight road closures on the National Highways network that drivers should be aware of over the following fortnight.

And three of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing holdups of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that six closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• A38(M), from 10pm May 19 to 5am May 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A38M northbound, A38M to A38 Tyburn road, carriageway closure for communications works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

• A446, from 9pm May 19 to 6am May 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 4 between exit and entry slip roads, carriageway closure for maintenance works, diversion via National Highways network.

• M6, from 9pm May 11 to 6am June 24, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 5, carriageway closure for bridge joint replacement works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

• A446, from 6am February 12 to 6am September 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 5 to junction 8, carriageway, slip road, link road and lane closures due to technology works, diversion via National Highways network.

• M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

• M6, from 6am January 12 to 11.59pm December 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 5, Hard shoulder closures with 50mph speed restriction for maintenance works.

And a further two closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• M5, from 9pm May 20 to 6am May 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 4 to junction 2, Lane closure for maintenance works.

• M6, from 9pm May 21 to 5am May 22, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6, entry slip road closure for maintenance works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
