Road closures: Nine for Birmingham drivers to avoid over the next fortnight

Drivers in and around Birmingham will have nine National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And five of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing holdups of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that three closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• A446, from 6am February 12 to 6am September 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 5 to junction 8, carriageway, slip road, link road and lane closures due to technology works, diversion via National Highways network.

• M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

• M6, from 6am January 12 to 11.59pm December 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 5, Hard shoulder closures with 50mph speed restriction for maintenance works.

And a further six closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• A38(M), from 9pm May 7 to 5am May 11, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A38M both directions Dartmouth Circus to M6 jct 6, carriageway closures for street lighting works, diversion via Local Highways and local authority Networks.

• A38, from 9pm May 7 to 6am May 8, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 southbound, junction 4, entry slip road closure for maintenance works, diversion via National Highways network.

• M6, from 9pm May 11 to 6am June 17, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 5, carriageway closure for bridge joint replacement works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

• M6, from 9pm May 14 to 6am May 15, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A38M northbound to M6 southbound, link road closure and lane closures for communication works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

• A446, from 9pm May 19 to 6am May 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 4 between exit and entry slip roads, carriageway closure for maintenance works, diversion via National Highways network.

• A38(M), from 10pm May 19 to 5am May 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A38M northbound, A38M to A38 Tyburn road, carriageway closure for communications works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.
