Ten major road closures in & around Birmingham for drivers to avoid

Drivers in and around Birmingham will have 10 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And two of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing holdups of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected road works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that five closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M6, from 8pm April 21 to 6am April 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 both directions, junction 6 to junction 7, Lane closure for maintenance works.

• A446, from 9pm April 2 to 6am April 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 4 to junction 5, carriageway and lane closures for improvement works, diversion is via National Highways and local authority network.

• M42, from 6am February 12 to 6am September 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 5 to junction 8, carriageway, slip road, link road and lane closures due to technology works, diversion via National Highways network.

• M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

• M6, from 6am January 12 to 11.59pm December 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 5, Hard shoulder closures with 50mph speed restriction for maintenance works.

And a further five closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• A446, from 9pm April 22 to 6am April 23, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 3a to junction 4, carriageway closure for maintenance works, diversion via National Highways network.

• A38, from 9pm April 23 to 6am April 24, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A38 Lindridge roundabout, Lane closure for electrical works.

• A456, from 9pm April 25 to 6am April 26, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions Kitwell to Ridgeacre, Lane closures for maintenance works.

• M6, from 9pm April 30 to 6am May 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 both directions, junction 5 to junction 6, lane closure for maintenance works.

• M6, from 9pm May 4 to 6am May 5, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 8 to junction 7, Lane and slip road closures for maintenance works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
