11 Birmingham road closures for drivers to avoid over the next fortnight

The National Highways network has announced 11 road closures in and around Birmingham over the next fortnight

Birmingham's motorists will have 11 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And three of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that seven closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• A38, from 9pm April 7 to 6am April 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 4a to M42, junction 1, carriageway closure for maintenance works, diversion via National Highways Network.

• A456, from 8pm April 2 to midday, April 14, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 / A456 jct three roundabout, Lane closures to support off network closure of A456 Quinton Expressway for Birmingham council, diversion via local authority networks.

• A446, from 9pm April 2 to 6am April 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 4 to junction 5, carriageway and lane closures for improvement works, diversion is via National Highways and local authority network.

• M42, from 9pm February 12 to 6am May 6, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 5 to junction 8, carriageway, slip road, link road and lane closures due to technology works, diversion via National Highways network.

• M6, from 8pm November 13 2023 to 6am May 6 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 5, carriageway closure for bridge joint replacement works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

• M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

• M6, from 6am January 12 to 11.59pm December 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 5, Hard shoulder closures with 50mph speed restriction for maintenance works.

And a further four closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• M6, from 9pm April 8 to 6am April 9, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 5, carriageway closure for maintenance works, diversion via local authority network.

• A446, from 9pm April 8 to 5am April 10, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, Aston Express to M6, Out of city link road closures and lane closures for maintenance works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

• M5, from 9pm April 8 to 6am April 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 southbound, jct two to jct 3, lane closure for maintenance works.

• M5, from 9pm April 15 to 6am April 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 3 to junction 4, Lane closure for inspection/survey works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
