Three arrested after police car rammed in Erdington, Birmingham

Police are appealing for information following the incident

Three people were arrested after a police car was rammed on a Birmingham street this morning (August 31).

At around 2am officers were called to Abbotts Road in Erdington following reports of people acting suspiciously. Police told that a car, full of people wearing masks, had driven into the area and the occupants were trying car doors.

Officers including firearms officers arrived and used their car to prevent the suspects from driving away. In an attempt to flee, a police car was rammed and the occupants jumped out of the car and tried to run away.

Three men aged 18, 22 and 25 were arrested on suspicion of having a bladed weapon in a public place and are currently being questioned.

A Mercedes car was recovered from the scene, which turned out to be a stolen car on false plates. Money and weapons were also recovered from the car.

A statement from West Midlands Police, read: “Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information that could help our investigation is urged to call us quoting log number 325 31/8/23.”
