Thousands have boycotted supermarkets today: Do residents agree?

“this country’s had it as far as I’m concerned.”

Campaigners have urged people to take part in a supermarket boycott tomorrow with thousands in agreement.

‘We're Not Buying It’ is a protest-led one-day boycott of UK supermarkets on Wednesday, October 28, the day the government delivers its Budget. The campaign is asking the government to use the budget to put an immediate price cap on essential food items.

Abby Burgess, aged 36 from Sedgley, taking part in the boycott said: “I’m not buying food today and I think it will make a difference to the government. The prices have gone up and the government needs to make a change in the supermarkets prices.”

The campaign has received over 28,000 signatures in its petition addressed to the UK government and has urged people to do their shop on or before Tuesday, October 27 and to buy nothing from supermarkets today.

However, others were sceptical of the boycott with one high street goer saying: “this country’s had it as far as I’m concerned.”

‘We’re not buying it’ said: “one person staying at home changes nothing. Millions of us doing it on the same day, on the day the Chancellor stands up, is a number that both the supermarkets and the government will have to look at.

“Join us to put pressure on the government by not buying from supermarkets on budget day. Let's send them a message that if they don't cap it, we're not buying it”
