The Steps musical Here and Now World Premiere coming to Birmingham’s Alexandra Theatre - what you need to know

If you’re a fan of the '90s pop sensation Steps, get ready for exciting news! A brand-new musical, Here and Now, based on their iconic songs, is set to hit the UK stage this year. The world premiere will take place at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham this November, followed by a transfer to the West End.

Here & Now weaves a heartwarming tale about four friends who work at the seaside superstore Better Best Bargains. Their dreams of finding love and happiness collide with secrets and lies that threaten to derail their plans. Will they give up or fight for their ‘happy ever after’?

This sparkling musical features many of the band’s unforgettable hits, including Tragedy/Heartbeat, Stomp, One For Sorrow, 5, 6, 7, 8, and more.

Steps (Claire Richards, Faye Tozer, Ian ‘H’ Watkins’, Lee Latchford-Evans and Lisa Scott-Lee) , the UK’s most successful mixed-sex pop group, boasts 14 top-five singles and a staggering 22 million record sales. Their seventh studio album, What the Future Holds, topped the UK charts in 2020, and now they’re thrilled to bring their music to the theatre.

Here & Now is directed by the award-winning Rachel Kavanaugh (Half a Sixpence, The Great British Bake Off Musical) and written by Shaun Kitchener (Hollyoaks). Produced by Steps themselves, along with theatre company ROYO and pop legend Pete Waterman, this musical promises an unforgettable experience.

Here and Now will premiere on Saturday 9th November and run until Sunday 24th November at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham. The musical is then set to transfer to the West End either later this year or in 2025, with dates yet to be announced.
