The pandemic has seen a lot of us look to make a change in our lives of lifestyle - with where we live being one of the main things we’ve looked to change.

Working from home has had a huge influence on that - it’s great to work from home if you’ve got the space, but not if you haven’t.

One things for sure there are a many people looking to move, so Purplebricks - the tech led estate agents - have done some research on the key trends.

If you’re looking to sell your home, you may be interested to know that 59% of Birmingham properties have sold for over the asking price in the last two years - with 31% selling for between £15,000 to £30,000 more.

Here are the key trends for property sales and we’ve got five houses on the market if you are looking to change where you live.

Why are the key reasons for people moving house in Birmingham at the moment?

  • The report from the UK tech-led estate agent Purplebricks, also shows 45% of those selling their home in Birmingham over the last two years did so because they were ‘looking for a more peaceful way of life’.
  • A total of 34% sold their home in order to change their lifestyle and 38% wanted a completely different type of home.
  • City living is definitely popular with Birmingham buyers, with over a quarter (27%) of sellers in Birmingham receiving an offer within just one week of putting their home on the market. And almost half (45%) accepted an offer on their home within just two weeks.
  • We all love the countryside and seaside, but you may be surprised to learn that the suburbs are just as popular. Just over a quarter of sellers in Birmingham moved to the countryside or seaside - although a similar amount (23%) still wanted to move to suburbia.
  • Despite sellers’ desire to change their lifestyles, however, most did not move far - 45% only moved 50 miles or less from their previous home.
  • The working from home phenomenon has certainly affected the property market, with the research from Purplebricks showing that over a third purchased a home with more space and square footage, while almost a quarter (22%) purchased a property with a home office.
  • And 19% looked for a home with two home offices.
  • Not only were nearly half of sellers (56%) looking for a bigger garden in their new home, but 30% were looking for an allotment or somewhere they could grow vegetables.
  • Detached homes were the most sought after property type, with a quarter of sellers choosing to move into detached houses, closely followed by terraced houses (22%).

Dan Firth, divisional sales director in Birmingham for Purplebricks, said: “The events of the past 18 months have made many of us consider a change of lifestyle.

This is one of the factors that has contributed to the highly dynamic, fast-paced property market we have seen in recent months. Our research shows that the confidence we can see among those selling their properties is entirely justified, with highly motivated buyers keen to move quickly with many looking to achieve a more peaceful lifestyle.”
