T20 World Cup 2021: When is it, who will England play and will Birmingham be represented in the squad?

Warwickshire and Worcestershire are represented in the England squad

The men’s T20 World Cup gets underway today, and England will be looking to become the first team to hold the title in both formats of white ball cricket.

The tournament comes two years after England’s dramatic super over win against New Zealand in the final of the 50 over World Cup.

It is to be held jointly in Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

Warwickshire’s Chris Woakes and Birmingham-born Worcestershire batsman Moeen Ali are part of the squad that has traveled to the middle east.

England get underway on 23 October when they face West Indies, the side who beat them in the final of the 2016 tournament.

The opening match of the tournament sees Oman play Papua New Guinea. The tournament begins with a week-long group stage in which eight teams take part.

Ireland, Namibia, Netherlands and Sri Lanka make up Group A and Bangladesh, Oman, Papua New Guinea and Scotland make up Group B.

The top two from each group will then go into the ‘Super 12’ stage which is made up of two groups of six teams.

It is here that England will join in Group 1. They will be pitted against West Indies, Australia, South Africa, the winner of Group A and the runner up in Group B.

Group 2 consists of Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, the runner up in Group A and the winner of Group B.

The top two in each group go into the semi-finals which will be played on the 10 and 11 November.

The final will take place on Sunday, 14 November.
