Sue Gray report: Sutton Coldfield MP Andrew Mitchell withdraws his support for Boris Johnson

Andrew Mitchell, Conservative MP for Sutton Coldfield told Boris Johnson that he “no longer enjoys my support” in Parliament.
The former cabinet minister spoke out in response to the release of Sue Gray’s report into parties at No 10.

Hide AdMr Mitchell, a long standing party member added that he was “deeply concerned” by the report’s findings.
But Mr Johnson told him that he was mistaken in his view.
Sue Gray’s report found “failures of leadership and judgement” at Downing Street.
He said he had previously given Mr Johnson his "full-throated support".
"But I am deeply concerned by these events and very concerned indeed by some of the things he has said from that despatch box and has said to the British public and our constituents.

Hide Ad"When he kindly invited me to see him 10 days ago, I told him that I thought he should think very carefully about what was now in the best interests of our country and of the Conservative Party, and I have to tell him he no longer enjoys my support."
"I must tell him respectfully, my right honourable friend, great though the admiration is that I have of him, I simply think that he is mistaken in his views and urge him to reconsider upon full consideration of the inquiry," Mr Johnson said.
