West Midlands Police has arrested two men after recovering a submachine gun from a car in Birmingham.

The potentially lethal weapon was seized from Aldridge Road, Perry Barr, after information was passed on to officers. Following enquiries into the discovery on Friday evening (June 2) two men, both aged 21, have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. They remain in police custody for questioning.

A spokesperson for WMP said: “The recovery means we’ve taken another potentially dangerous weapon off the streets as part of our ongoing work to reduce gun crime. It comes after we’ve launched Operation Target, which sees us take a defiant stand against a range of serious and organised crime offences.
