Hide AdThe Met Office has issued amber ‘danger to life’ warnings for “very strong winds” across England and Wales as Storm Ciaran struck last night (Wednesday, November 1) and is due to continue throughout today (Thursday, November 2).
Exposed English coastal regions have been lashed by gusts of up to 90mph and there has been widespread flooding, park closures and power outages in Surrey. A tree fell and blocked a rail line between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury stopping trains earlier - this has now been cleared.
There are at least 25 flood warnings - where flooding is possible - across England and 118 flood alerts - where flooding is possible. Yesterday Nothern Ireland was hit with flooding after a night of torrential rain, which saw canal banks burst in Newry, Co Down.

Yellow weather warnings are in place in many parts os southern England and northern areas. It looks as though Birmingham will escape the very worst of the storm with no weather warnings issued for the city, or wider West Midlands. No flood warnings have been issued for Birmingham either.
Although no weather warnings are in place yet, heavy rain is forecast in Birmingham and strong winds are expected. A few clear spells are expected throughout the evening, but the Met Office says that the weather will “become windy with strong gusts.”
