Flooding is probable from rivers and surface water as Storm Babet brings heavy downpour in the Midlands, including Birmingham, today (Friday, October 20), according to the Environment Agency.

Flooding was reported in parts of Birmingham causing rail and road travel disruption so far.

So, far the Environment Agency has said flooding is expected at seven areas in and around Birmingham.

Full list of neighbourhoods & rivers where flooding is expected in and around Birmingham:

  • Bourn Brook at Selly Oak - Flood warning area is Bourn Brook at Selly Oak including the Stonehouse Brook at California.
  • River Rea at Edgbaston - Flood warning area is River Rea at Edgbaston from Tally Ho to Constance Road.
  • River Rea at Stirchley - Flood warning area is River Rea at Stirchley including Cartland Road and Dogpool Lane areas, the Avenues and Sir John’s Road.
  • The Bourn at Bournville - Flood warning area is The Bourn at Bournville including Wood Brook.
  • Spadesbourne Brook at Bromsgrove - Flood warning area is Spadesbourne Brook at Bromsgrove.
  • Illey Brook at Halesowen - Flood warning area is Illey Brook at Halesowen from Manor Way to Shenstone Trading Estate.
  • River Blythe at Earlswood - Flood warning area is River Blythe at Earlswood from Valley Road to the Industrial estate.

Advice from Environment Agency on expected flooding in Birmingham

The Environment Agency said: “Please take action to protect yourself and your property and monitor local weather and river conditions. Avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water. Consider activating any property flood protection products you may have.

“Environment Agency Flood Warning Officers set the river or tidal levels that have triggered this message. During industrial action this message has been automatically issued based on rising river or tidal levels.”
