On Wednesday March 1, Year 6 pupils across the country will find out which secondary school has offered them a place for September 2023.
Last year, 94.4% of applicants in the UK for a secondary school place received an offer from one of their top three choices, while 83.3% were offered their first-choice secondary school.
It comes as teachers across the country prepare to take more industrial action for better pay. On 1 March, union members are set to strike in the Midlands and eastern regions in England and further walkouts will take place across Wales and the south of England on Thursday.
Solihull has a range of excellent secondary schools as well as primary schools which currently have an ‘outstanding’ rating from Ofsted. We have put together a list of the schools in Solihull which have received ‘outsanding’ Ofsted ratings during their latest inspection.
Schools across the country are regularly inspected by the education watchdog and are graded on a four-point scale. Although they aren’t inspected every year.
‘Outstanding’ is the top rating a school can receive, ‘good’ is second, ‘requires improvement’ the third and ‘inadequate’ is the worst. Primary school applications close on January 15 in Solihull.
Here are all the primary and secondary schools in Solihull that received an outstanding rating in the latest round of inspections.
1. Oak Cottage Primary School, Solihull: Outstanding
The school’s latest Ofsted inspection in 2019 said: "This is a great school that pupils describe as a fun and fair place in which to learn. We agree. Adults treat pupils kindly and teach them very well, so everyone feels valued and is able to succeed. In return, pupils’ behaviour is excellent.”
2. Kingswood School St James Place, Shirley: Outstanding
The school’s latest inspection in 2022, said: “Pupils are safe and happy at Kingswood School. Pupils enjoy being part of a diverse community of people from all over the world."
3. Tudor Grange Primary Academy St James, Shirley: Outstanding
The school’s latest inspection in 2018 said: “Leaders, managers, governors and trustees have the highest aspirations for Tudor Grange pupils. The pupils are at the heart of all they do."
4. Shirley Heath Junior School, Shirley: Outstanding
The school’s latest inspection said: “This is an outstanding school. It is fully inclusive and makes outstanding provision for its disabled pupils and those with special educational needs, and all other identified groups.”
