A cruel robber has been jailed after stealing from a vulnerable pensioner who had Alzheimer’s at her home in Solihull last summer. Emma Grey befriended the elderly lady and gained her trust, before stealing her jewellery. The 36-year-old knocked the elderly woman’s door and forced her way in at around 7am on August 28, 2023.

Scared and confused, the lady left her flat, locking Grey inside and went to find help. After stealing two gold rings, Grey called the concierge to the building in an attempt to help her escape. But suspecting something wasn’t quite right the concierge called the woman’s relatives.

When one of her relatives arrived at the flat, Grey shouted through the letterbox that she was a relative of the elderly lady. Knowing this not to be true, the relative left the building to call the police. Grey left the flat before police arrived. The elderly lady managed to make her way to McDonald’s and seek help from staff there who returned her home.

Following a police investigation, Grey of Arbor Way, Chelmsley Wood was arrested and last Wednesday (January 10) was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison. She was also handed a ten year restraining order.

Detective Constable David Spencer, from Solihull Police, said: “For months Grey harassed this vulnerable woman for money after befriending her and took advantage of her kindness.

“The woman who is sadly suffering from Alzheimer’s was exploited by Grey who stole two gold rings that were of very sentimental value that have never been found. We would always encourage anyone who feels something isn’t right to report it to police.”
