Roads are closed in Smethwick and there’s heavy congestion following a road traffic collision this morning (Thursday, September 21).

The collisions happened around Tollhouse Way which is closed both ways between Telford Way and High Street. Rolfe Street is also closed due to the incident. West Midlands Roads said there is heavy congestion in the area and asked motorists to avoid the area.

Another collision in Rowley has created minor disruption in Blackheath. West Midlands Roads said there is congestion along the Canalside Cemetery after a collision on Powke Lane towards Blackheath, at the junction with Holly Road.

West Midlands Police said: “We’re investigating after a serious collision in Smethwick at around 7.50am today. A car and a pedestrian were in collision on Tollhouse Way, near Smethwick Rolfe Street Station.

The pedestrian, aged 45, has been taken to hospital and is in a critical condition. The driver has been assisting with our investigation. Tollhouse Way is currently closed in both directions. Any witnesses are urged to contact us on 101, quoting log 649 of 21/9.”
