The puppy was in a “great deal of pain” and unable to use his rear legs

An abandoned puppy unable to use his back legs was dumped at a construction site near Birmingham.

The puppy, who is thought to have been around five to six months old, was emaciated, matted, and had flystrike around his belly and groin area.

He was unable to use either of his hind legs and was double incontinent and sadly had to be put to sleep because of the severity of his condition.

The RSPCA is investigating how the severely injured puppy was abandoned.

A member of the public came across the young cockapoo puppy on July 25 after finding the dog on a construction site area on Marshall Street, Smethwick, and rushed him to a vet who contacted the RSPCA.

The RSPCA is appealing for information about how he came to be left at the location when he was in desperate need of medical attention.

RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Charlotte Holder, who is investigating for the animal welfare charity, said: “This poor dog was found in a great deal of pain. No animal deserves cruelty, they feel pain and suffering just like we do and it’s the responsibility of us all to show kindness and compassion to all animals.

“We haven’t been able to trace his owner so we are hoping someone may have some information about him and the circumstances which led to him being abandoned.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the RSPCA appeals line number on 0300 123 8018.

The charity has recently created a hard-hitting new RSPCA animated film as part of its 'No Animal Deserves Cruelty Appeal' - as the RSPCA is braced to respond to more cruelty this summer than at any other time of the year.
