Birmingham will fall silent on Sunday, as the city remembers the fallen at its Remembrance Day parade and service.

The event is an opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have “defended our freedoms and protected our way of life,” according to the Royal British Legion.

Birmingham’s annual Remembrance Day Service will once again take place on Colmore Row, opposite St Philip’s Cathedral, on Sunday 13 November, attended by military veterans and armed forces representatives.

The parade will include ex-service personnel, regular, reserve and cadet units from the Armed Forces who, with representatives of other local uniformed organisations.

At 10.15am, the parade get underway along Colmore Row, and do a complete circuit of Cathedral Square and will disperse in Eden Place.

On Sunday 13 November, numerous road closures will be in place from 6am to 2.30pm.

During this period Colmore Row will be closed to traffic, except for one way access from Livery Street via Colmore Row to Colmore Circus.

What route will the Remembrance Sunday 2022 Birmingham parade take?

The city centre commemorations will begin at 10.15am when the Salvation Army band will play on Colmore Row and the Birmingham City Council Choir will also perform.

The Civic Party will proceed from the Council House, and the parade will continue along Colmore Row, and do a complete circuit of Cathedral Square and then disperse in Eden Place.

At 11am there will be a two-minute silence, with the start and finish marked by rifle fire by soldiers from 37 Signal Regiment.

Wreaths will be laid at the Cenotaph by representatives from Armed Forces, veterans organisations, faith and community groups. The event will end with a march past at 11.40am.

There will also be an opportunity for members of the public to lay wreaths at the Cenotaph.

The full list of roads affected by road closures is set out below – signed diversions will be in operation:

  • Bennett’s Hill – whole length
  • Cannon Street – whole length
  • Cherry Street – whole length
  • Church Street – Colmore Row to Barwick Street
  • Colmore Row – except the link between Livery Street and Colmore Circus
  • Ethel Street – whole length
  • Lower Temple Street – whole length
  • Needless alley – whole length
  • New Street – Victoria Square to Cannon Street
  • Newhall Street – Colmore Row to Edmund Street
  • Temple Passage – whole length
  • Temple Row – whole length
  • Temple Row West – whole length
  • Temple Street – whole length
  • Waterloo Street – whole length
