Recalled Halloween mask sold on Amazon 'destroyed at border' due to suffocation risk
The soft plastic alien mask was sold on Amazon.
A recalled Halloween mask, which was sold on Amazon, has been destroyed at the border due to it posing a risk of suffocation.
The soft plastic alien mask, sold by SHENHMZHENSH IXUDUDIANZ ISHANGWUYOUXI with the barcode X002N3A0U1, was packaged in a zip-lock plastic bag with two different stickers.
Trading Standards say the items is “intended to enclose the head of the user” but “does not have sufficient ventilation.”

A spokesperson for the authority said: “The product presents a serious risk of asphyxiation as it does not have sufficient ventilation to comply with the requirements of BS EN 71-1 and prevent a possible restriction to airflow.
“The mask has a combined ventilation area of 879 mm², significantly below the minimum requirement of 1300 mm² for fully enclosed masks made from impermeable material.
“If the child user were to place the mask over their head, the inadequate ventilation could restrict their airflow and lead to asphyxiation.

“Some of the required documentation and labelling was not present. The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
“The import has been rejected at the border.”
