The extension of the scheme, run with the government, will include the £1 single tickets for children and young people aged 18 and under.

The £2 bus fare cap will now be available until June 30 in Birmingham and the West Midlands. This means bus travellers should not pay more than £4 on journeys on local buses each day up to this date.

More than three million people have used the £2 single fare offer in the West Midlands since the initiative was launched in January as part of the Government’s Help for Households programme.

National Express West Midlands (NXWM) said it hopes the cheaper fare will give commuters a helping hand in a tough financial climate and encourage more people to travel on its network.

David Bradford, Managing Director of National Express West Midlands, said: "Now that our services are back to normal we’re pleased to be extending the £2 single ticket for another three months.

“We know that 78% of local people use our services to get around, so by offering a flat, affordable fare we’re helping to make it even easier for people to ditch their cars and choose to travel by bus, which in turn contributes to reduced congestion and emissions on our roads.”

The £2 adult and £1 child fare cap will be available to all customers purchasing single tickets via the National Express West Midlands mTicket app or on-board using cash or contactless until 30 June 2023. For more information, visit www.nxbus.co.uk
