The world’s biggest Primark on the High Street in Birmingham has a new initiative to help make fashion more sustainable

Primark has announced a new initiative for its huge store in Birmingham city centre to help it become a more sustainable business and reduce fashion waste.

This Thursday (May 26) the store will be holding a series of repair workshops throughout the day with fashion designer Lorraine Mitchell to give Primark customers customers the opportunity to learn new skills, including hand-sewing and repairing buttons and zips.

As well as being a fashion designer Lorraine is a lecturer at City of Westminster College and UAL. She approached Primark about partnering with the world famous discount fashion chain about the workshops last year.

Since then more thna 200 colleagues and customers and colleagues have been educated, including through partnerships with The Fashion School and London Repair Week.

There are four workshops in total;

  • 10:30am-11:30am Hand sewing
  • 12:00pm-1:00pm: Buttons
  • 2:00pm – 3:00pm Hand Sewing
  • 3:30pm-4:30pm Zips
