Homewares budget store Poundstretcher has announced a closing down sale of a popular Birmingham shop

A Poundstretcher store on a Birmingham high street is set to close.

Closing down sale posters announcing 20% off products have been erected across the front of the store. BirminghamWorld has contacted Poundstretcher for details of the date the store will close - and if other branches of its business are closing in the city - but they declined to speak with us, saying: “No comment.”

The Poundstretcher store that is closing is on Watford Road in Cotteridge. Many locals have been dismayed at the announcement that the shop which sells homewares from kitchen good to bedding at discounted prices is closing.

One shopper said: “Such a shame. The store was really useful for household goods, no idea where I can get the stuff I want in Cotteridge now.” Another said: “There are hardly any decent shops in Cotteridge these days. I think parking is an issue around there.”

Other Poundstretcher stores have closed across the country. In February the budget chain revealed plans to open 50 new stores by the end of the year. The discount chain opened 30 locations in 2022 and has 350 shops nationwide, according to the The Sun.

The closing down sale at Poundstretcher in Cotteridge takes place as Wilko stops online orders and appoints administrators with Birmingham stores at risk.
