Popworld Solihull working with police after ‘needle spiking’ incident

Bosses at Popworld in Solihull are working with West Midlands Police after a ‘needle spiking’ incident at the nightclub.

The venue on Poplar Road in the town centre has stated that it is aware of allegations about an incident being made on social media in which a woman claims she might have been spiked with a needle.

West Midlands Police confirmed officers have been in touch with the victim and have arranged to take full details from her as soon as possible.

The nightclub said it had no prior knowledge of the incident, until the social media post was made. It said it has raised a police report and is working with officers. It is also putting extra security measures in place.

In the social media post a woman described how she passed out at Popworld in Solihull on Friday night, October 22, after becoming dizzy.

She said she suffered seizures before being taken to hospital where she was discharged the following day after tests, in the post.

The woman describes seeing a mark on her arm which she believes could be caused by a needle and posted a picture of the mark along with the post.

The post states she returned to hospital to have vaccinations for hepatitis and tetanus.

Following the incident, a statement on the Popworld Solihull Facebook and Instagram pages, said: “We’ve been made aware on social media about a report of “Needle Spiking”, this was brought to our attention via social media.

“The police were unaware as were we until this social media post of a Needle Spiking incident. We have raised a police report and are working closely with West Midlands Police on a full investigation into this.

“We have contacted the party involved and we are all working together on this investigation. Our number one priority is our customer safety, we operate a 100% search policy and ID scan policy.

“We will be working closely with West Midlands Police over the approaching Halloween weekend and onwards to make sure that extra security measures go into place to ensure that everyone has a safe evening with us every time they visit.

“We urge anybody who notices anything suspicious on a night out to come forward and speak to security or management straight away. If you have any information about the incident please contact West Midlands Police using the reference 966 of 26th October.”
