West Midlands Police were called to reports of distressed cries coming from a park in Birmingham in the early hours of today (Thursday, May 11).

Officers rushed to save a person who was heard “screaming for help” - but were surprised when they arrived at the scene at Woodgate Valley Country Park and discovered all was not what it seemed.

Instead of finding a person in need of help, officers discovered the noise was a trapped DEER which had ecome stuck in the bars of a metal fence.

Officers called West Midlands Fire Service who used jaws-of-life metal cutters to free the deer which police say then “trotted off”.

In a Twitter post, Force Response reported: “Officers were called to reports of what someone thought was a person screaming for help. Don’t worry my deer it was only me.

“[We were] helped out by West Midlands Fire Service [firefighters in] Woodgate using the jaws of life. [The deer] then trotted off into distance.”
