West Midlands Police control room staff used CCTV to track off road bikers on Broad Street in Birmingham city centre

Two off road bikes have been seized by West Midlands Police after they were being ridden on Broad Street in Birmingham city centre on Saturday evening.

The Golden Mile attracts thousands of visitors each weekend to its numerous bars, restaurants and nightclubs. The off road bikes are designed for rough terrain out of town - and are not appropriate for a city centre street.

Police said the riders were tracked through CCTV monitored by control room staff and that city centre officers  seized the bikes. Their riders were reported for driving offences, including no insurance.

West Midlands Police is currently supporting a national campaign to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and keep communities safe. Running from July 3 to 9, national ASB Awareness Week 2023 aims to encourage communities to take a stand against ASB and highlights the action that can be taken by those experiencing it.

WMP, the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner and partners have pledged to come together to deal with issues that communities across the region have raised. A WMP spokesperson explained: “We’ve got lots of activities going on including off road bike operations, multi-agency operations in areas where you’ve told us anti-social behaviour is a problem and we’ll be supporting our partners with area clean ups.

“Our Safe Haven teams who support and mentor young people with football and sports activities, will also be hosting events throughout the week across the West Midlands. There will also be Safer Travel operations across the public transport network, school inputs and youth club activities. “Throughout the week we will be highlighting the work of our partners and policing teams who are committed to tackling anti-social behaviour on social media. Follow the hashtag #ASBawarenessweek to keep up to date with our activity.”
