Police investigate Bristol City v Birmingham City viral video involving a Blues fan

Police have issued a statement to confirm that they are investigating a viral video posted on social media following Blues’ clash with Bristol City on Saturday (March 5).
The video is alleged to show an incident involving a Birmingham City supporter in the home end of Bristol City’s Ashton Gate.

Hide AdThe scuffle apparently happened after the fan celebrated his team scoring while in one end of the Dolman Stand, close to the Atyeo Stand which housed the away fans.
A video of the incident has attracted more than 1 million views on social media.
Avon and Somerset Police said a number of people were ejected from the ground as a result of the incident.
A spokesperson said: “We’re aware of a video on social media showing a public order incident during Bristol City’s game against Birmingham City on Saturday.

Hide Ad“Officers spoke with a number of people after they were ejected from the ground by security staff following the incident and enquiries into it are ongoing.”


Bristol City’s chief executive Richard Gould said the club was working closely with police and using CCTV to identify those involved.
He said: “Bristol City condemns any form of violence and public disorder and is working closely with Avon and Somerset Police in regards to an incident that took place at the fixture against Birmingham City on Saturday at Ashton Gate.
“Supporters involved in the incident were ejected from the ground and Ashton Gate is utilising its extensive CCTV system to identify further individuals involved.”

Hide AdSaturday’s game saw Birmingham City win 1-2 against Bristol.
There was heavy police presence around the ground, due to the large number of travelling fans and an operation targeting drug use at pubs near the stadium.
