Police called as adults fight at under-10s football match in Birmingham

Police were called to break up a fight that had broken out at an under-10s football match in Birmingham over the weekend.

Footage widely shared online shows spectators clashing in the stand, with some running across the pitch to get involved. The fight broke out in a stand at Boldmere St Michael's FC in Sutton Coldfield over the weekend.

In the footage children and adults can be heard screaming and shouting.

Boldmere St Michael's Football Club issued a statement after the incident - saying police intervention was required.

It said: "Today at Boldmere St Michael's FC there was an incident involving two U10 teams.

"Regrettably, this spilled into the stands and despite multiple Boldmere Coaches trying to calm the situation, police intervention was required.

"Boldmere as a football club takes this situation very seriously and an internal disciplinary investigation has begun.

"The club will independently investigate as well as cooperate fully, with any FA or Police investigation.

"This behaviour will not be tolerated".

The club said on Monday that it could not comment further on an open investigation, and Birmingham County FA also declined to comment.

West Midlands Police confirmed officers were called to the club at about 10:20am on Sunday after reports of disorder. An investigation is under way.
