An award-winning pizza place in the Grand Central had to shut down due to rising costs.

The pizzeria was awarded the Top 10% Restaurants in the World by Travelors’ Choice three years running from 2020-22. It was also ranked as number one in Birmingham, by Trip Advisor. It had also received Diner’s Choice awards 2022 by OpenTable.

@Pizza had opened its doors in February 2019 and their journey in Birmingham ended a little more than four years later. It initially opened in 2017 in Edinburgh and its rectangular pizzas with 64,000 flavour combinations quickly made it most sought after.

The founders of @Pizza - where you could customize your own pizzas - shared their statement on their website. Rupert and Bhasker said: “It is with deepest regret and sadness that we have to announce that At Pizza has entered into a liquidation process.

After battling through incredibly difficult trading conditions since Covid-19 arrived and all the post lockdown headwinds to date, we have unfortunately reached a position from which we are unable to trade anymore. “Thank you for all the support, faith and trust you had in our brand, and we wish a fond farewell to all of our customers and supporters.”

Located on Unit 33 at the shopping centre, the 60-cover pizza place had a 4.4 rating on SquareMeal and 4.6 on Google. It had a Food Hygiene Rating of 4 meaning it was good. Reviewers on Google said: “Great food and prices...the salad was massive and staff were friendly.”

Another had said: “Absolutely stunning pizzas and bottomless craft sodas for a great price. By far the best pizza I’ve ever had! Gluten free options for allergies and the place is so clean with great music! 100% recommended to any pizza lovers as you can choose exactly how you want your pizza and watch how it’s made. Definitely be making the trip to come back.”

It had another location in the UK in Edinburgh - where it was ranked no.1 by Trip Advisor - and that venue also closed down.
