West Midlands police have released this photograph of a man they want to speak to in connection with the death of the man who died in Cathedral Square, known locally as Pigeon Park.

The man died after being found unconscious in the square around St Philips Cathedral on Colmore Row on October 19. Officers say they do not believe the man died in suspicious circumstances, but they say his bank card was stolen before he died and want to speak with the man in the photograph to understand why he had the deceased man’s card.

They added that the stolen bank card was used in Coventry. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We recently released this photo after a bank card was stolen and later used in Coventry. We can now reveal that the stolen bank card belonged to the deceased man.

“The results of the post mortem were inconclusive. Further tests are being carried out, although based on what we know currently, we do not believe he died as a result of a criminal act.

“We are keen to speak to the man pictured to understand the events leading up to him having possession of the bank card. We’d urge anyone who knows who he is – or the man himself – to contact us as soon as possible. We believe he may have links to Birmingham and Coventry.”

Anyone with information can contact officers via Live Chat on the West Midlands Police website or call 101 quoting 20/894596/22.
