Approximately £1 billion is set to be invested across North-West Birmingham over the next two decades as part of a wider regeneration of the area. The first phase of the residential scheme has now reached completion here in Perry Barr, with a total of 968 new homes having been built.
Cllr. Ian Ward, Leader of Birmingham City Council says: “It’s the beginning really of the regeneration of Perry Barr as a legacy from the Commonwealth Games and the beginning of the delivery of the Perry Barr Master Plan, which is a 20 year vision document for the future of this part of North Birmingham. it will eventually see 5000 new homes created in this part of North Birmingham. And so this is the start of it. “

Cllr Ward added: “So we’re seeing here the first 968 new homes, but there’s a planning consent in place for 1400, so there’ll be a further - almost 500 - in the second phase, and then we’ll go on to deliver 5000 new homes in the wider Perry Barr area as we deliver on the Perry Barr Master Plan.”
Aside from expanding to meet the demands of a growing city, this residential project is built around a sustainable model for modern cities.
“What we’ve created is the beginnings of a 15 minute neighbourhood,” Cllr Ward said. “So I see this as a real pilot of a real test about what we might achieve outside of the city centre in the future, both in terms of quality and in terms of reducing the reliance upon the car. This is one of the best connected by public transport locations in Birmingham. We’ve got a new railway station at Perry Barr, we’ve got the bus rapid transit scheme that comes up the A34. And there’s even a cycle route if you want to cycle into the city centre as well.”

Anna Evans, Project Director for Leadlease says:
“Yeah, it was really nice to hand over that final donation this morning to Eden Boys School. When we first started on this project over four years ago, Eden boys school were the first members of the community we worked with, and they’ve been with us for the whole journey. “
An ambitious project for a city with extraordinary aims for the future.
