There’s also a Birmingham 2022 festival running now and up to September.

It’s an exciting time for the West Midlands, but how many Brummies are actually planning to attend the games? We’re here on the streets of the city to find out.

Jake says: So, I will be going through the Commonwealth Games but not as a spectator. I’m lucky enough to have got myself a job on the organisation and management side of it. I think it’ll be pretty good for Brum actually, to be fair.

“They’ve done a hell of a lot of organisation and building up the city, the new roads, new train station, stadiums and things. Also, they’re going to be the first games that are trying to be carbon neutral, which I think is obviously in the current climate is pretty, pretty banging!

“But then, I don’t know, I think the only problem Birmingham has is, the roads aren’t the widest - they’re not the biggest. There’s lots of little tunnels and places where things get choked up and go wrong. So if you’re not interested in the games, while they’re happening, then you’re going to be stuck a little bit really! You’ll probably be trying to go to work and you’ll be two hours late just because everyone else is trying to go watch some basketball somewhere.”

Katie says: “I’m not planning on attending, because I don’t like big crowds. But I probably will be watching on TV if it’s localised. I think it’s good for Birmingham because Birmingham does get a lot of good rep a lot of bad rep. So I think it wouldn’t be actually good for it, to be honest. But we’ll see. We’ll see on that one.”

Jaz says: “Yeah, I don’t really know what the Commonwealth Games is per se. But I know it’s in Birmingham. I know it’s coming to Birmingham. Everyone’s getting ready for it. I’m ready for it!”
