Joe Lycett is a keen artist, who often sells prints of his paintings on his website for fans to showcase in their homes. Now, the Late Night Lycett presenter, 34, is set to showcase one of his more vibrant paintings on one of the UK’s biggest stages for artists.
Joe’s painting, entitled ‘I DRINK A CRISP, COLD BEER IN A POOL IN LOS ANGELES WHILE GARY LINEKER LOOKS ON IN DISGUST’, will be exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts summer exhibition.

He wrote in the caption: “Delighted that my piece ‘I DRINK A CRISP, COLD BEER IN A POOL IN LOS ANGELES WHILE GARY LINEKER LOOKS ON IN DISGUST’ has been selected for this year’s @royalacademyarts Summer Exhibition. It’s my first painting to make it and only the second time I’ve been included (the first time was my infamous sculpture CHRIS).
“Sadly won’t be at varnishing day today but you can see the piece and the exhibition in the flesh from 13th June. I hosted the telly prog about it last year and it’s one of my favourite exhibitions, so full of inspiration and life, and I can’t wait to see it and for some sour old arts journo to describe it as a ‘waste of paper and paint’.”
Comedian and friend of Joe, Noel Fielding, commented on the post: “This is a beauty Joe ! x x”. Other fans were also impressed by the artwork, one user wrote: “Gary’s face - chef’s kiss”. Another added: “I mean without reading the caption I thought it was Wayne Lineker so decent likeness”.
The piece will be available for viewing in-person at Burlington House, Piccadilly, from 13 June to 20 August. The coveted art event has run every year since 1769, and a ticket will cost you anywhere from £22 to £24.50.
