It’s hard to find good friends, who stay by your side through thick and thin. Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie had a strong friendship when it could have easily been otherwise.

Brummie rockstar, McVie, was already part of the band when Nicks joined the band with Lindsey Buckingham. Mick Fleetwood had heard Lindsey and Stevie perform and wanted to bring in the guitarist - who said he and Stevie are a package deal.

McVie told Rolling Stone in 2015: “Mick came to me and said, ‘They have a girl involved here. You’re gonna have to meet her and see if you like her.’ And we met and I instantly liked her.” They joined Fleetwood Mac officially on December 31, 1974, and from 1975 - the band became one of the biggest hits.

McVie and Nicks formed a deep friendship and even during the band’s turbulent times of break-ups and getting back together, they held onto each other. Instead of becoming competitors in a band of men - they let their sisterhood develop.

Sadly, McVie died in November 2022 and since then her best friend has shared multiple heartfelt tributes.

Stevie Nicks performed for the first time since McVie’s death on March 10 at So-Fi Stadium in Inglewood in California, USA. She performed a strong rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 anthem ‘Landslide.’

With tears in her eyes, at the end of the song, she said: “There’s really not much to say. We just pretend that she’s still here, that’s how I’m trying to deal with it.”

What Mick Fleetwood said about the band’s future

Fleetwood Mac dummer and co-founder Mick spoke about the future of the band at The Grammy Awards last month. He said he believes the band are “done”, according to Planet Radio.

He said: “I think right now, I truly think the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris (McVie). I’d say we’re done, but then we’ve all said that before. It’s sort of unthinkable right now.”

He said that band members are working on other projects.

“They all get out and play, so I’m gonna be doing the same thing, finding people to play with.”
