Many legendary musicians and bands appeared at the University of Birmingham

The University of Birmingham has changed completely over the years with thousands of students having been involved with the Union in one way or another.

A number of huge acts have played at the Guild of Students over the years, so we've decided to take a look at the very best to have hit the stage on the university's campus.

Jez Collins of the Birmingham Music Archive has worked with students and alumni to unearth information on some of the biggest gigs to have take place at the union. Plenty of incredible acts have performed at the university's Guild of Students, Deb Hall, High Hall, Founders Bar, Mason Hall and Cellar Bar.

Jez told the student magazine: "The University of Birmingham holds a special place in music history as the venue for Joy Division's last ever gig, and so many bands got their early gigs here, including Duran Duran, whose singer Simon Le Bon was a student at Birmingham."
